Daddy needed bait for his fishing trip tomorrow, so we took Chaos for a boat ride/fishing trip today. His uncle and cousins came with us. The kids had so much fun that I wondered why we don't do this more often. You would think that since we have had the boat longer than we've had Chaos, he would be used to boating. The truth is, this was only his third boat trip, and the first two were when he was a baby. He hated wearing the life jacket so much that I never wanted to try that again. So today I bought a swim vest that is much more comfortable, and he didn't mind it at all. It's not "approved" flotation, but who is the Coast Guard to tell me how to dress my kid anyway? ;)
There is always interesting stuff to be found in the bait well. Especially considering that it probably hasn't been cleaned out in 4 years.
The main reason my husband likes me to go catch bait with him is so I can be in charge of driving the boat while he is fishing. For those of you who know nothing about fishing, the bait fish tend to hang out around objects in the water, for example, the cute tower in the picture below.
The idea is to keep the boat a certain distance from the tower. And that is NOT as easy as it may seem. Usually it requires slowly circling the tower, but NOT TOO CLOSE, and definitely NOT TOO FAR from it. Do you have ANY idea how difficult that is when there is wind and a strong current? I do not enjoy this assignment. I also do not enjoy getting yelled at when I screw it up. Especially since I did not apply for the job in the first place. Lucky for me, the planets were all aligned correctly today and the boat pretty much stayed in one spot without much help from me at all. I think I only got yelled at once or twice.

Great assignment!! I also noticed a second one. I see the back of two male individuals, obviously not tending to two little ones. So WHO took care of the kids? :)
